The Tilwara Ghat on the banks of the river Narmada is famous for its natural beauty and historical importance. A Mahadev temple, called Tilwadeshwar Mandir is located in the ghat. It is one of the locations where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed.
Tilwara Ghat is one of the place where the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed. It also served as the venue for the opening session of the Tripuri Congress in 1939. Hence this place has a memorial of the father of the nation - "Gandhi Smarak".
Besides being historically important, Tilwara Ghat is a pilgrimage as well. An old Mahadev (Tilwadeshwar) temple is located here. Other temples located nearby include the 12th century Mala Devi Mandir, Pisan Hari Jain Temples and Roopnath Lingam -dedicated to Shiva.
Tilwara Ghat is the best developed ghat among the several ghats around the Narmada river. One of the biggest attractions of Jabalpur, the famous Marble Rocks is situated nearby. The addictive and marvelous Pariyat Tank, Bargi Dam, Lamheta Ghat are also close by.
