Bhuvaneswari temple is a famous temple in Guwahati, Assam. The Bhuvaneswari temple, a white shrine, is perched atop a hill adjacent to the city. This Temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhuvaneswari. It is within Guwahati city limits, at a distance of 10 Kms from city centre.
In Hinduism, Bhuvane?wari is the fourth of the ten Dasa Mahavidya goddesses and an aspect of Devi or Durga as elements of the physical cosmos,in giving shape to the creation of the World. From the temple, views of sunset and Bhramaputra river are beautiful.
The temple was built in between 1667 to 1676 A. D. , during the reign of Maharaja Govinda Manikya. The temple is constructed on a3 feet high paved terrace. The roof features the typical four-chaala pattern with stupa like crowns on the vestibule and core chambers. The stupa on core chamber is embellished with floral designs.
It remains open on all days of the week during timings: 5:30 AM - 8:00 PM.
